The Prime Group of Companies, are avid supporters of an NGO called Project Playground based in Langa, and soon to be, Gugulethu in Cape Town. (www.project-playground.org.) It was formed by two Swedish Nationals and still greatly supported by Swedish Corporate’s. it provides for children who remain invisible to the social security nets of our country a second chance. In a safe environment they receive after-care and engage in constructive, fun and yet educational activities. Apart from life skills and support for their school learning program, they engage in formative and creative activities such as art, poetry, music and dancing, drums and marimbas, extreme bicycling, netball and of course soccer.
The program helps the children to develop self-confidence, optimism, personal growth and through shadow and internship programs also develops their skills and ambition. Through this process they positively affect their communities in their fight against poverty, crime and violence.
Some of Project Playground’s soccer players have participated in the Gothia Cup, the largest youth soccer tournament in the world in Gothenburg, Sweden. Their participation and more importantly their interaction with young people from other countries has enormous life long benefit. The respect they also receive as young and talented soccer players is a profound experience for them.
