How we Discover Talent

Unlike most agencies, Prime Sports Management does not exclusively scout for players. We develop talent in keen players through our inclusive arrangement with Project Playground in Langa and Samora, Cape Town, Western Cape.

These academies were established in 2010, with 180 young boys participating from under-11s to under-20s. Prime’s Talent Director, Ray Pienaar, serves as Head of Sports Development at Project Playground.

In 2013, Project Playground sent its first football team, the under-15 squad, to the Gothia Cup in Sweden, the world’s largest youth football tournament. They won 3 of their 5 games.

Since then, at least one team from Project Playground has competed each year. Project Playground players have been placed at professional clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria (South African Premier League) and Pirates in Worcester (national 2nd division), had trials at Swedish Allsvenskan clubs and various South African PSL clubs, while also being constantly monitored by these clubs.

Prime Sports Management continues to scan for and remain open to professional players from all regions, countries and/or other development programmes. Co-owner Ray Pienaar’s reputation and football network have already attracted players from other sources, and successful placement of some is imminent.
